Lizzo on Just Trish Podcast: “I Tried Ozempic—But Protein & Mindset Changed the Game’’

Lizzo is keeping it real. In a new interview on the Just Trish podcast (June 19, 2025), the Grammy-winning singer opened up about her well-documented weight-loss journey.

The big news: yes, she tried Ozempic and other GLP-1 injectable drugs along the way – but quickly decided they weren’t her path to results. Explaining herself, Lizzo noted that Ozempic’s effect is basically “you eat less food… it makes you feel full”. Her point was simple: if you can achieve fullness on your own through diet and willpower, the drug isn’t doing anything magic. “If you can just do that on your own… it’s the same thing,” she said, chopping a good appetite with a positive mindset.

In fact, Lizzo credited the real game-changer to a surprising culprit: giving up her vegan diet. She said she was once vegetarian, eating lots of fake meats, bread and rice – and always hungry.

But once she started eating whole foods like beef, chicken and fish again, she finally felt satisfied on smaller portions. That dietary shift, plus focusing on balanced nutrition, is what helped the pounds come off, Lizzo explained. In short, she emphasized, she lost weight by eating differently – not by continuing medication.

Throughout the chat, Lizzo was careful to defend anyone who does use Ozempic or similar drugs. She urged people to stop shaming others for taking help, saying it’s not “cheating” for those struggling with weight. “It’s a drug to help somebody with something they’re struggling with,” she noted. Her message was clear: do what works for you, but don’t feel like you’ve done anything wrong.

Lizzo’s fans and health commentators are praising her honesty. Rather than quietly popping pills, she showed the ups and downs of her journey. And by swapping back to a protein-rich diet and preaching self-love, Lizzo is emphasizing that body positivity can coexist with weight loss goals.
